Community Garden

The Lincoln Community Garden is part of a growing network of community gardens throughout New Zealand. It was established by the Lincoln Envirotown Trust in 1997. The Community Garden is located on James Street, Lincoln at the rear of the Lincoln Maternity Hospital on land kindly made available by the Canterbury District Health Board.

     The Garden consists of community plots for the sharing of produce,

     and individual plots maintained by local groups and gardening enthusiasts.

     The principal aims of the Community Garden are to:

  •      - Grow and share food cooperatively as a community;
  •      - Provide a space where people can connect with the environment;
  •      - Run seminars and workshops to educate and
  •        to encourage good gardening practices.

The Community Garden Coordinator is Ruth Wood (ruth.wood@xtra.co.nz). Ruth welcomes visitors, both groups and individuals, to the Garden, and she is keen to provide opportunities for hands-on involvement for anyone who is interested.

Our aims are to:

Grow and share food cooperatively as a community.

Provide recreation, therapy and educational opportunities for local people as well as open space to reconnect with the environment.

Encourage people to become enthusiastic about growing their own food, whether in the community garden or their own garden.

You don’t need to know any thing about gardening to be involved! We are here to help.
