Waste Art Exhibition & Awards
August 13 @ 10:00 am – August 14 @ 4:00 pm
Art exhibition that will challenge the way we look at waste.
About this event
On display will be all the entries to this years Selwyn High Schools’ Waste Art Competition.
The exhibits will be on show from 10am on Saturday 13 August until 4pm Sunday 14 August. We are grateful to Deputy Mayor Malcolm Lyall; who will be presenting the awards at 1pm on Saturday.
This event was first held last year and exhibited a genuine concern for the issue of Waste along with high standards of work. It has been a difficult year for schools and students but a pleasing number of them have taken the time to complete projects that will showcase their alternative view of “rubbish” in Art form. “From Bags to Riches” was the imaginative title of piece of art which won 2021’s Waste Art Competition. A dress which led a field of 22 entries was made from used feed bags and bailing twine. We also had an R2D2 constructed from a used gas cylinder and offerings using all sorts of so-called waste materials destined for landfill.
